The Lotus

The lotus, which grows in swampy environments yet still blooms pure and clean, has inspired human thought for millenia.

The sacred symbolism of the lotus was used by ancient Asian and Egyptian cultures, and is still recognized in Hindu and Buddhist religious thought and practice. It is named padma in the sacred Sanskrit language.

In tantric Buddhism, the symbolic character of the Padma Principle, transformed into its positive expression, embraces compassion, awareness and openness. The quality of padma is perceived as refreshing and welcoming.
