Be Water

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water.
Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot.
Now water can flow or it can crash.
Be water, my friend.”

Marc Gafni on the possibility and necessity of a World Spirituality

Excerpt from the blog "Spirit's Next Move"

For the first time in the history of planet Earth, in the history of consciousness, a World Spirituality is utterly possible and utterly necessary. A World Spirituality is one that trance-ends. It ends the trance of any particular religion or nationality. It weaves together the best medicines of every great system of knowing into a larger whole.

The most urgent need we have today is to participate in the gathering of all of us who want to participate in this great evolutionary unfolding. It’s already happening all over the world.

At Braindance I said this: We focus our attention on our breath. One in-breath is enough to drop in.

Yesterday Thich Nhat Hanh gave a 73 minute talk introduced as:
We focus our attention on our breath. One in-breath is enough to bring enlightenment. The teaching is from the Sutra on the Full Awareness of Breathing – we look at the first eight exercises.

I think there's something to this breath thing...

Hitchcock's Definition of Happiness

"A clear horizon — nothing to worry about on your plate, only things that are creative and not destructive… I can’t bear quarreling, I can’t bear feelings between people — I think hatred is wasted energy, and it’s all non-productive. I’m very sensitive — a sharp word, said by say a person, who has a temper, if they’re close to me, hurts me for days. I know we’re only human, we do go in for these various emotions, call them negative emotions, but when all these are removed and you can look forward and the road is clear ahead, and now you’re going to create something — I think that’s as happy as I would ever want to be”.

The Barbarism of the Health-Care Repeal Crusade

Excerpt from The Barbarism of the Health-Care Repeal Crusade By Jonathan Chait

The two parties are fighting over whether access to regular medical care ought to be a right or an earned privilege.

To me, and essentially everybody on the liberal side, the answer to that question is obvious. I’m comfortable with the market creating vastly unequal rewards of many kinds. But to make health insurance an earned privilege is to condemn people to physical suffering or even death because they failed to secure a job that gives them health insurance, or they don’t earn enough, or they happened to contract an expensive illness, or a member of their family did.
